The Garsington Opera pop-up shop has been a much-loved highlight of the summer festival site for over a decade, offering a bespoke range which perfectly complements a night at the opera and reflects the artistic and playful spirit of Garsington. From hand-crafted silk jackets and exquisite jewellery to beautifully functional picnic ware and the all-important season mug, every year the shop offers something new for our visitors, whilst maintaining the familiar quality, style and welcoming atmosphere that audiences have come to know and love. It also provides an important revenue stream for Garsington as a charity.
We are now looking for a creative, energetic and detail-orientated person to be our next Shop Manager. The role requires knowledge of commissioning exclusive product from artists and makers; experience of stock management; familiarity with EPOS system management; excellent commercial acumen; visual merchandising skills and team management experience. This is a part-time, freelance role for a motivated self-starter with retail experience, high-standards and a good eye for design. It’s also an opportunity to play a key role in the next chapter of Garsington Opera.
Words from our current Shop Manager, Sara Sweetland:
“After 20 years as Commercial Director at Chatsworth and then Waddesdon Manor I was planning to focus on building a new career as an artist, however, the opportunity to run the Garsington Opera pop-up shop came along and it has worked brilliantly in tandem with my painting time. It has been wonderful to work with so many exceptional designers, artists and suppliers to create products that hopefully bring joy to a Garsington visit. After five years at Garsington, I shall truly miss the beauty of the Wormsley Estate, the amazing operas that I have watched and the friendly and fun team that I have worked with. It really has been a wonderful experience.”
