Ahead of your visit this summer, discover more about Der Rosenkavalier in this insight talk where writer and opera specialist Henrietta Bredin speaks to director Bruno Ravella about the opera and Struass featuring musical excerpts performed by artists from our 2026 Festival.

Henrietta Bredin is a writer and editor who specialises in opera and theatre, and is deputy editor of Opera Magazine as well as editor of the Garsington Opera programme book. She is also an experienced interviewer with interviewees including Stephen Fry and Simon Callow. Bruno Ravella is an international opera director and made his debut at Garsington in 2015 with Strauss’ Intermezzo, and is returning this year to direct Der Rosenkavalier which first debuted at Garsington in 2021. Together they will discuss the historical context behind Der Rosenkavalier and tell us more about Strauss and his musical world.
