Change of programme from previously advertised

Due to ill health, Allan Clayton has been forced to cancel the next three weeks of engagements including his recital of Die schöne Mullerin with Paul Lewis at Garsington Studios on Thursday 10 September.

We are delighted that world-renowned soloist, Paul Lewis, has agreed to perform his Mozart Plus solo piano programme in place of Schubert’s Die schöne Mullerin, featuring works by Mozart and Schubert. Acclaimed for his thoughtful and insightful interpretations of Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, Paul is described as having a ‘precise velvet touch’ for Mozart by Bachtrack, and in his recent Mozart Plus recital in Boston, ‘he wove a tapestry of luminous colors and intricate detail’ (Boston Classical Review).

Paul’s Mozart Plus series explores the vocal dimension of Mozart’s piano writing, and this concert pairs two of Mozart’s sonatas with Schubert’s Three Piano Pieces (D 946). Together, their music reveals a clear and compelling thread: the idea of the piano as a singing instrument.

If you would like to stay for supper afterwards, an informal buffet-style meal will be served in the café after the performance at shared tables. The two-course menu is £40 per person and includes a glass of house wine (see below for details).
