Insight Talk: Un giorno di regno

Event details

Ahead of your visit in the summer, discover more about Un giorno di regno in this insight talk combining historical context from leading broadcaster and scholar Sarah Lenton with musical excerpts performed by singers on our Young Artists’ Programme.

Sarah Lenton has entertained Garsington audiences at Insight Talks for many years with her deep knowledge of opera imparted with a lightness of touch for which she is well known. Sarah has spent her life in the theatre principally at the ROH, Glyndebourne, ENO and broadcasts for the BBC.

Sarah will take a light hearted look at the story of Un giorno di regno with its disguises and outrageous misuse of power, and will set this brilliantly effervescent piece within its historical context of Verdi’s early life and prodigious output.

Illustrated with extracts from the opera sung by Alvarez Young Artists Hannah Poulsom (cover Marchesa) and Holly Brown (cover Giulietta).

We are very grateful to Bernard and Sarah Taylor for hosting the event.
